Job: Staff Grade Occupational Therapist - Acute

Location: Dún Laoghaire
Contract Type: Full-Time, Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
Salary: Aligned with the HSE payscale

Excel Healthcare is currently recruiting a Staff Grade Occupational Therapist to join a friendly and supportive hospital team in Dún Laoghaire.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop broad clinical experience while supporting patients through assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and safe discharge planning.

Job Purpose

As a Staff Grade Occupational Therapist, you will provide a high-quality, patient-centred service across inpatient and outpatient clinical areas. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, you will complete comprehensive assessments and deliver individualised treatment and rehabilitation programmes that promote function, independence and wellbeing.

The role includes supporting effective discharge planning and making onward referrals to community Occupational Therapy teams and other relevant services. The Occupational Therapy Department also provides outpatient support, including input to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme and other clinical services in line with patient and service needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and treat patients across inpatient and outpatient hospital services
  • Develop and implement individualised, evidence-based intervention and rehabilitation plans
  • Support patients to maximise functional independence in daily activities
  • Contribute to safe, timely discharge planning and refer patients to community and other relevant services
  • Work collaboratively with medical, nursing and health and social care professionals
  • Provide advice, education and support to patients and their families or carers
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and reports in line with professional and hospital standards
  • Participate in clinical meetings, supervision, service development and continuing professional development

Essential Requirements

  • BSc in Occupational Therapy or an equivalent recognised qualification
  • Current CORU registration as an Occupational Therapist
  • Relevant clinical experience, hospital, inpatient or outpatient experience is essential
  • Min 1 year post graduate experience is essential
  • Strong assessment, clinical reasoning and caseload management skills
  • Excellent communication, organisation and multidisciplinary teamwork abilities
