Job Overview
The Locum Psychiatry Registrar provides senior‑level psychiatric care across adult, older‑adult, child & adolescent (CAMHS), or community mental health services. The role involves leading patient assessment and management, supporting multidisciplinary teams, and supervising SHOs in inpatient and community settings. This position is ideal for experienced psychiatry registrars seeking flexible locum work within a busy Mental Health Service framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the assessment and management of patients with mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, substance‑use‑related illness, personality disorder, and other psychiatric conditions.
- Conduct structured mental‑state examinations, risk‑assessments, and formulate comprehensive treatment plans under consultant supervision.
- Supervise and support SHOs and junior medical staff on wards, in community teams, and in emergency or liaison‑psychiatry settings.
- Participate in and where appropriate lead ward‑rounds, case discussions, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Review and monitor pharmacological and psychosocial interventions, adjusting plans as required.
- Order and interpret relevant investigations (blood tests, ECGs, and where appropriate imaging) and escalate physical‑health concerns.
- Maintain accurate documentation including MSEs, progress notes, and risk‑assessment records in line with HSE and HIQA standards.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, teaching, and service improvement in mental health.
Requirements
- Medical degree recognised by the Irish Medical Council.
- Full IMC registration at registrar/NCHD level in Psychiatry or equivalent.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in psychiatry (adult, CAMHS, liaison, or community, as relevant).
- Eligibility to locum in Ireland (Irish/UK/EU passport or Stamp 4).
- Strong communication, teamwork, and risk‑management skills.
- Commitment to patient‑safety, confidentiality, and continuous professional development.

Working Conditions
- Shift‑based or day‑based rota, depending on service (ward, community, or mixed model).

- May involve evening/weekend sessions or short‑notice cover in line with HSE‑style safe‑working‑hour principles.
