Job Overview

The Locum Cardiology SHO supports the cardiology team in the assessment, investigation, and management of patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions. The role involves working closely with consultants, registrars, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. This position is suited to doctors who want flexible locum work while gaining experience in a busy cardiology service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patients presenting to cardiology clinics, wards, CCU, and emergency admissions.
  • Formulate initial management plans under consultant supervision.
  • Order, review, and follow up diagnostic investigations such as ECGs, blood tests, echocardiograms, and other cardiac tests.
  • Assist with the admission, clerking, and ongoing care of patients under the cardiology service.
  • Prescribe medications and implement treatment plans as directed.
  • Support the management of patients in CCU, outpatient clinics, and emergency referrals.
  • Participate in ward rounds, handovers, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, discharge summaries, and clinical records.
  • Respond to urgent clinical situations and escalate appropriately.
  • Support departmental workflow by booking investigations and following up results.

Requirements

  • Medical degree recognized by the Irish Medical Council.
  • IMC registration or eligibility for registration.
  • Previous experience working at SHO level in medicine or cardiology.
  • Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy hospital environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Right to work in Ireland, where required by the employing hospital or agency.

Working Conditions
