Job Overview

The Locum Cardiology Registrar is responsible for the assessment, investigation, and management of patients with a wide range of acute and chronic cardiac conditions. The role involves working closely with consultants, SHOs, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centered cardiology care. This position is suited to doctors with experience in medicine and cardiology who are looking for flexible locum opportunities in a busy hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage patients presenting to cardiology wards, clinics, CCU, and emergency admissions.
  • Perform detailed clerking, clinical reviews, and formulation of management plans under consultant supervision.
  • Interpret and follow up cardiac investigations such as ECGs, echocardiograms, blood tests, telemetry, and other relevant diagnostics.
  • Review and manage patients with chest pain, heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, syncope, and other cardiac conditions.
  • Participate in ward rounds, consultant rounds, handovers, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Supervise and support SHOs and junior medical staff in day-to-day cardiology care.
  • Assist with emergency referrals and urgent cardiac assessments.
  • Ensure timely documentation, discharge planning, and communication with patients and families.
  • Support admission, escalation, and transfer decisions where required.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, clinical governance, and patient safety standards.

Requirements

  • Medical degree recognized by the Irish Medical Council.
  • IMC registration or eligibility for registration.
  • Previous experience at Registrar level in cardiology or general medicine with cardiology exposure.
  • Strong knowledge of acute and chronic cardiac conditions.
  • Ability to interpret common cardiac investigations and clinical findings.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills.
  • Right to work in Ireland, where required.
