Job Overview

The Locum Anaesthesiology SHO will support the anaesthesia team in delivering safe, high-quality perioperative care to patients. The role involves assisting in anaesthetic procedures, pre- and post-operative patient management, and participation in emergency and on-call services. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist consultants and registrars in administering anaesthesia for surgical and diagnostic procedures.
  • Conduct pre-operative assessments, including patient history, physical examination, and risk stratification.
  • Monitor patients intra-operatively, ensuring vital stability and responding to clinical changes.
  • Provide post-operative care, including pain management and recovery monitoring.
  • Participate in on-call rotas, including emergency anaesthesia and resuscitation cases.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records in compliance with hospital and HSE standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including surgeons, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Adhere to clinical governance, infection control, and patient safety protocols.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and mandatory training.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) recognized by the Irish Medical Council (IMC).
  • Active registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Irish Medical Council.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of postgraduate clinical experience, preferably including anaesthesia or critical care exposure.
  • Valid certifications such as BLS (Basic Life Support); ACLS is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in anaesthesia, ICU, or emergency medicine is advantageous.
  • Right to work in Ireland (EU/EEA citizenship or valid work permit/visa).
