Job Overview

The Locum Consultant Urologist provides senior‑level leadership in the urology service, including general urology, uro‑oncology, stone disease, incontinence, and reconstructive urology where specified. The role involves leading surgical and non‑surgical care for patients, supervising registrars and SHOs, and contributing to teaching, service development, and quality‑improvement initiatives. This position is suited to experienced urologists seeking flexible consultant‑level locum work in large Irish hospitals.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide consultant‑level assessment and management of patients with benign and malignant urological conditions, including prostate, bladder, renal, and testicular disease, stone disease, voiding dysfunction, and incontinence.
• Lead and perform (or supervise) elective and emergency urological procedures such as cystoscopy, transurethral resection, nephrectomy, cystectomy, prostatectomy, and ureteroscopy/PCNL where appropriate.
• Supervise and mentor registrars, SHOs, and other junior medical staff in ward, clinic, and theatre settings.
• Attend and lead ward rounds, outpatient clinics, and urology‑related MDTs (uro‑oncology, renal, oncology‑surgery).
• Manage general‑urology inpatient and outpatient activity, including emergency referrals and follow‑up care.
• Ensure accurate documentation, operative notes, and clinical records in line with HSE and hospital standards.
• Uphold patient‑safety, infection‑control, and risk‑management protocols within the urology unit.

Requirements

• Medical degree recognised by the Irish Medical Council.
• Full Specialist Registration in Urology on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners in Ireland.
• Consultant‑level experience in urology, including general and subspecialty practice (e.g., stone disease, reconstructive, incontinence, uro‑oncology, as specified in the post).
• Eligibility to locum in Ireland (e.g., Irish/UK/EU passport or Stamp 4).
• Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
