  • Participate in on‑site and on‑call radiology cover, including acute and emergency imaging and urgent interventional procedures.
  • Attend and contribute to radiology and clinical MDT meetings, oncology‑related, surgical, and medical boards.
  • Mentor and teach radiology registrars, SHOs, and allied‑health professionals, including participation in formal training programmes.
  • Contribute to departmental quality‑assurance, audit, and accreditation initiatives, including radiation‑safety and procedural‑safety projects.
  • Support the development and implementation of best‑practice guidelines for imaging pathways and protocols.
  • Maintain accurate, timely reports and documentation in line with HSE and HIQA standards.

Requirements

  • Medical degree recognised by the Irish Medical Council.
  • Full Specialist Registration in Radiology on the Specialist Division of the IMC Register (or equivalent plus eligibility to obtain it).
  • Consultant‑level experience in diagnostic and/or interventional radiology, including cross‑sectional imaging.
  • Subspecialty experience (e.g., breast, neuro, oncology, interventional radiology) may be required depending on the post.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland (Irish/UK/EU passport or Stamp 4).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced interpretative and analytical skills in multiple imaging modalities.
  • Leadership and team‑management experience in a busy radiology department.
  • Comfort with high‑volume reporting and emergency/as‑required calls.
  • Excellent communication with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong commitment to quality‑improvement, teaching, and continuous professional development.

Working Conditions

  • Consultant‑level rota aligned with HSE Public‑Only Consultant 2023 (POCC23) principles (e.g., 39‑hour clinical commitment, on‑call duties, depending on the post).
  • Diagnostic Imaging Directorate environment with CT, MRI, ultrasound, interventional radiology, breast‑imaging, and nuclear‑medicine services.
  • May involve work at a single major teaching hospital or across multiple regional sites.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Highly competitive locum consultant rates, up to €133 per hour and often aligned with or above HSE POCC23 pay scales (pro‑rated to hours).
  • Flexible, time‑limited contracts with scope for extension.
  • Opportunity to work in leading radiology and tertiary‑care centres in Ireland.

Experience

  • 5 - 10 years of experience

Salary range
