Urgent Care Centres provide episodic unscheduled care to patients with acute illnesses and minor injuries, which are not anticipated to be lifethreatening in nature. 1 The term Urgent Care Centre (UCC) is preferred to Minor Injury Unit as these facilities often deal with non-life threatening medical and surgical problems as well as injuries.

  • Assessment and Diagnosis: Evaluate patients, gather information about their injury, and order or interpret diagnostic tests e.g. x-rays
  • Treatment: Provide appropriate treatment for injuries, which may include suspected bony and soft tissue injury, minor scans and burns. Wound care, splinting, reducing dislocations, or applying casts.
  • Referral: Refer patients to other healthcare providers or specialized services when necessary.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of patient encounters and treatment.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Patient Education: Provide patients with information about their injury, treatment plan, and recovery.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Medical Degree: A qualified medical doctor with a current Irish Medical Council (IMC) registration.
  • Emergency Medicine Experience: At least 2 years of experience in Emergency Medicine, including 1 year at Registrar level.
  • Certifications: Current certifications in ACLS and BLS

  • Clinical Judgment: You must be able to demonstrate the ability to assess and manage a range of minor injuries and illnesses effectively.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Flexibility: Be able to adapt to changing circumstances and patient needs
