Job Title:
Radiation Therapist, Clinical Specialist
West of Ireland
Contract Type:
Permanent / Full-Time
Salary Scale:
€60,000 - €75,000
Purpose of the Post:
The post of Radiation Therapist, Clinical Specialist is a pivotal senior role within the radiotherapy team. The successful candidate will lead and advance clinical radiotherapy services, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, and evidence-based practice. This post offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of radiotherapy services within Ireland's dynamic public healthcare system.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a clinical expert and point of reference within the radiation therapy team.
Deliver high-quality patient-centred care in accordance with departmental protocols and national/international best practice.
Oversee planning, simulation, treatment delivery, and verification processes, ensuring accuracy, safety, and compassion.
Participate in the development, implementation, and audit of new technologies and treatment techniques (e.g., IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SABR).
Collaborate with Consultants, Physicists, Dosimetrists, and Nursing staff to ensure a multidisciplinary approach.
Lead in the training, supervision, and mentorship of junior staff and students.
Support service development, including quality improvement initiatives, research, and continuing professional development (CPD).
Contribute to clinical governance, incident reporting, and adherence to local and national radiation protection guidelines (e.g., HIQA, IAEA standards).
Actively participate in departmental meetings and represent the service in relevant forums.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
BSc in Radiation Therapy (or equivalent qualification recognized by CORU)
CORU Registration as a Radiation Therapist (or eligibility for registration at time of appointment)
Minimum 6 years post-qualification experience in a radiotherapy department
Demonstrated expertise in advanced radiation techniques and/or treatment planning
Proven experience in leadership, service improvement, or clinical supervision
Desirable Criteria:
Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Practice, Radiotherapy Planning, or Management
Experience in implementing new technologies or treatment protocols
Research and audit participation
Experience with training and student education
