Excel Recruitment is recruiting a Senior Psychologist on behalf of a Psychiatry of Later Life team, with the role based in Monaghan or Cavan Town.

The Psychiatry of Later Life service provides specialist, compassionate and evidence-based mental healthcare to older adults experiencing complex psychological, cognitive and emotional difficulties. Care is delivered through a person-centred and recovery-focused approach, with close collaboration involving families, carers and community services.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established multidisciplinary mental health service in a senior clinical role, combining a specialist caseload with supervision, consultation, service development and support for colleagues. You will help strengthen high-quality psychological care for older adults across hospital, community and residential settings, as required by the service.

As a Senior Psychologist, you will:

• Provide senior clinical psychology expertise within a specialist Psychiatry of Later Life service, working collaboratively with older adults, families and carers.
• Manage a varied and complex caseload, undertaking specialist psychological assessment, formulation, intervention and review.
• Assess and support older adults presenting with mental health difficulties, cognitive change, adjustment to illness, loss, trauma and other later-life challenges.
• Deliver evidence-based individual, family and group interventions tailored to each person's clinical, cognitive and functional needs.
• Provide clinical consultation, advice and support to members of the multidisciplinary team and relevant care providers.
• Offer supervision and professional support to psychologists, trainees and other team members, as appropriate.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary case discussions, risk assessment, care planning, discharge planning and effective referral pathways.
• Work collaboratively with families, carers, primary care, acute hospitals, residential services and community agencies to support continuity of care.
• Support service development, quality improvement, audit, evaluation and psychologically informed practice across the service.
• Maintain high-quality clinical records and practise in accordance with professional, ethical and organisational standards.

Eligibility Criteria:

• A Doctorate or equivalent recognised postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
• Eligibility for professional registration or recognition in Ireland and the ability to meet the requirements applicable to the post.
• A minimum of five years' post-qualification experience as a Psychologist, including at least two years' experience at Senior Psychologist level or an equivalent grade.
• Demonstrable experience in specialist psychological assessment, formulation and evidence-based intervention with adults experiencing complex mental health needs.
• Relevant experience with older adults, Psychiatry of Later Life, adult mental health, cognitive assessment, dementia care or a comparable specialist service is highly desirable.
• A strong understanding of later-life mental health presentations, cognitive and functional needs, safeguarding, capacity considerations, risk management and multidisciplinary care pathways.
• Experience providing clinical supervision, consultation, mentoring or professional guidance.
• Demonstrable leadership skills and experience contributing to service development, quality improvement or audit.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with older adults, families, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues.
