Job Overview

The Locum Obstetrics & Gynaecology Registrar provides senior‑level care across maternity and women’s health services, including antenatal, labour, postnatal, and gynaecology inpatient and outpatient care. The role involves leading ward‑based management, supporting labour‑ward decision‑making, supervising junior doctors, and participating in elective and emergency procedures. This position is ideal for experienced O&G registrars seeking flexible locum work in busy Irish hospitals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the assessment and management of obstetric patients in antenatal, labour, and postnatal settings, including high‑risk and emergency obstetrics.
  • Assess and manage gynaecology inpatients and outpatients, including menstrual disorders, fibroids, pelvic pain, infertility, and oncology‑related gynaecology.
  • Participate in and where appropriate lead obstetric and gynaecology procedures, including LSCS, instrumental delivery, major gynaecology surgery, and minor procedures.
  • Supervise and support SHOs and junior medical staff on labour ward, wards, and clinics.
  • Attend and contribute to ward rounds, consultant rounds, obstetric and gynaecology MDTs, and perinatal review meetings.
  • Participate in on‑call rota, including obstetric emergencies and acute gynaecology presentations.
  • Interpret investigations (ultrasound, bloods, cytology, etc.) and ensure timely follow‑up and documentation.
  • Ensure accurate clinical notes, discharge summaries, and referral responses in line with HSE/Hiqa standards.
  • Uphold maternity safety, infection control, and clinical governance protocols.

Requirements

  • Medical degree recognised by the Irish Medical Council.
  • Full IMC registration at registrar/NCHD 4–6 level or equivalent.
  • Significant post‑graduate experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology in an acute hospital setting.
  • Proven experience with labour‑ward cover, obstetric emergencies, and gynaecological surgery.
  • Eligibility to locum in Ireland (e.g., Irish/UK/EU passport or Stamp 4/1G).
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organisational skills.
