  • Lead or participate in elective and emergency obstetric and gynaecology procedures, including LSCS, major gynaecology surgery, and operative hysteroscopy/colposcopy as appropriate.
  • Supervise and mentor registrars, SHOs, and junior medical staff on wards, labour ward, and in theatre.
  • Attend and lead ward rounds, consultant rounds, obstetric and gynaecology MDTs, and perinatal mortality/seriously‑complicated‑maternity‑care review meetings.
  • Participate in on‑call and rota‑based cover for labour ward, obstetric emergencies, and acute gynaecology.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, operative notes, and clinical records in line with HSE and Hiqa standards.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, teaching, and women’s health service development.

Requirements

  • Medical degree recognised by the Irish Medical Council.
  • Full specialist registration in Obstetrics & Gynaecology on the Specialist Division of the IMC register (or equivalent with eligibility to obtain it).
  • Consultant‑level experience in both obstetrics and gynaecology in an acute hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with high‑risk obstetric care, labour‑ward leadership, and major gynaecology surgery.
  • Eligibility to locum in Ireland (e.g., Irish/UK/EU passport or Stamp 4/1G visa).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to patient safety, governance, and continuous professional development.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong clinical judgment and decision‑making in complex obstetric and gynaecology cases.
  • Leadership and team‑management experience in a maternity and gynaecology department.
  • Confidence managing obstetric emergencies and high‑acuity gynaecology presentations.
  • Compassionate and effective communication with women, families, and multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Flexibility to work variable rota patterns and ad‑hoc or urgent cover as required.

Working Conditions

  • Consultant‑level rota including day, evening, night, weekend, and on‑call commitments.
  • Busy maternity and gynaecology services with exposure to labour ward, theatres, wards, and outpatient clinics.
  • May involve working across multiple hospital sites within a group.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Flexible working arrangements and short‑ or medium‑term contracts.
