Clinical Placement Co-Ordinator / Student Allocation Liaison Officer (CNM 2)

Location: Dublin North

Reporting To: Nursing Practice Development Co-Ordinator / Director of Nursing

Overview

The Clinical Placement Co-Ordinator (CPC) / Student Allocation Liaison Officer (SALO) plays a key leadership role in supporting undergraduate nursing education and ensuring excellence in clinical placement coordination.

The post holder is responsible for planning, organising, supporting, evaluating and recording undergraduate student nurses' supernumerary and internship clinical placements within the BSc Nursing Children's and General Programme (BNCG).

The CPC/SALO acts as a vital liaison between clinical staff, nursing management, academic institutions and student nurses to ensure high-quality clinical learning experiences that support professional development and patient-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and supervise student nurses during clinical placements while ensuring safe patient care.
  • Encourage the integration of nursing theory into evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Act as a clinical resource and mentor for students and staff.
  • Co-ordinate clinical placements throughout the BNCG programme in line with NMBI standards.
  • Liaise with Clinical Nurse Managers, preceptors and academic staff to support student learning outcomes.
  • Support preceptors in clinical competency assessment processes.
  • Assist students in achieving clinical learning objectives and professional competencies.
  • Participate in orientation programmes for student nurses.
  • Support clinical staff in their teaching and mentorship roles.
  • Facilitate reflective practice and portfolio development.
  • Promote the application of evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Participate in audits, evaluations and accreditation processes.
  • Support implementation of nursing policies, procedures and quality initiatives.
  • Report and document student-related issues in accordance with organisational policy.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, professional standards and GDPR requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to student performance and clinical placements.
  • Liaise with academic institutions and partner healthcare sites regarding placement scheduling.
  • Support pre-placement requirements including Garda Vetting, Occupational Health and onboarding requirements.
  • Monitor placement attendance, absenteeism and timesheet completion.

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered General Nurse or Registered Children's Nurse with active registration on the NMBI register.
  • Relevant post-registration qualification in nursing, education or healthcare management.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' post-registration clinical experience.
  • Experience supporting or supervising nursing students in a clinical setting.
  • Experience in education, clinical facilitation or nursing practice development.
  • Strong understanding of undergraduate nursing programmes and clinical competency assessment.
  • Knowledge of NMBI standards and requirements.

Salary range

  • €62,000 - €80,000 per year
