Cardiac Surgery Advanced Care Practitioner (ACP)

Band 7 Ward 4A & 4B

We are seeking a highly motivated Advanced Care Practitioner, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, Bart’s Health NHS Trust to support the inpatients cardiac surgery pathway. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the cardiac surgery MDT and support the growth of the Barts’ Cardiac Centre. You will be joining us at a very exciting time as we expand aortovascular surgery, introduce same day admission surgery and enhanced recovery following the opening of additional operating and critical care capacity.

You will need to have a physical assessment qualification, NMP qualification and be registered as an advanced practitioner with the NMC or willing to study towards this. You will work as part of the ward MDT under the supervision of the Consultant Cardiac Surgeons. Duties include undertaking comprehensive clinical assessments, requesting and interpreting diagnostic tests and initiating and managing clinical treatment plans including the prescription of medication and supporting the discharge process.

Applicants for this position should be a registered nurse who has substantial experience within cardiothoracic surgery at a senior level. A high level of commitment and dedication is required to successfully work in the role. We are, therefore, looking for people who can demonstrate their commitment to the specialty and provide evidence of involvement in projects or activities that have added benefit to themselves or their unit.

ACPs provide valuable clinical leadership. As such, we seek candidates who have experience in this role and can demonstrate strengthened leadership skills through formal training or experiential learning. We are looking for someone who is a good team player, has excellent interpersonal skills and experience of change.
