On behalf of our client, we require a Director of Nursing to join an elderly care setting in Co. Kerry. The Director of Nursing is the Person in Charge as per Heath Information Quality Authority (HIQA) and has overall responsibility for the implementation and compliance with HIQA Regulations and standards. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, operating in accordance with the policies of the HSE and in collaboration with other professionals and service managers in achieving service goals. Promote the opportunity for clients / residents to direct their own lives in accordance with their cognitive and physical abilities in a homely and "normalised" environment.
" Promote improved opportunities for clients / residents to have meaningful relationships.
" Promote a culture of respect for clients / residents, their families and staff.
" Lead by example demonstrating dignity, courtesy and professionalism at all times.
" Actively promote the participation of clients / residents in the running of the hospital.
" Promote the social interaction of clients / residents with the wider community, including facilitating the on-going involvement in their personal interests, hobbies etc.
" Develop and promote good interpersonal relationships with clients / residents, their family / social network supports and the multidisciplinary care team in the promotion of person-centred care.
" Endeavour to ensure that care is carried out in an empathetic and ethical manner and that the needs and dignity of the client / resident are the foremost consideration.
" Collaborate and work closely with the client / resident, his / her family, the multi-disciplinary team, external agencies and services to promote clients' independence, to facilitate discharge planning, to ensure continuity of care and attention to specific care requirements.
" Participate as an active member of the primary care teams and health & social care networks.
" Facilitate interdisciplinary co-ordination, co-operation and liaison across healthcare settings.
" Collaborate with clients / residents, family, carers and other staff in treatment / care planning and in the provision of support and advice.
" Provide strategic and clinical leadership and direction for nursing and related services which results in the delivery of effective, efficient, quality assured client / resident centred care.
" Develop and promote a shared sense of commitment and participation among staff in the management of change, the development of nursing services and in responding to the changing health and social care needs of clients / residents.
" Develop and promote the concept of collaborative care planning in conjunction with other residents /clients, their families/friends, as appropriate, and healthcare staff.
" Foster multidisciplinary working relationships and strengthen the interface between different locations of care e.g. hospitals, primary care teams etc.
" Anticipate and interact with key stakeholders from multiple clinical and administrative services in developing mission, strategic plans, budgets, policies and structures.
" Develop, maintain and review nursing organisational structure within the context of overall organisational objectives.
" Ensure that modern standards of clinical nursing care are in operation and that regular monitoring of nursing care is undertaken through audit.
All applicants must:
" Be registered or are eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cn imhseachais na h ireann).
" Have at least three years' experience nursing older people in the previous six years.
" Have not less than three years' experience in a management capacity in the health and social care area.
" Possess a post-registration management qualification in health or related field at QQI Level 8 or higher, or give a contractual undertaking to acquire one within three years from the date of appointment.
" Applicants must possess the requisite clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the office.
