About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated, dedicated, and experienced Oncology Registrar to join an integrated multi-disciplinary team in Ireland. This permanent position offers an exceptional opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-centered cancer care across inpatient units, day-treatment facilities, and outpatient clinics.

As a core member of the oncology team, you will act as a vital bridge between senior consultants and junior medical staff (SHOs and Interns), advancing your clinical judgment while working with state-of-the-art oncology frameworks, targeted therapies, and clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

1. Clinical Care & Patient Management

  • Lead the day-to-day assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and evaluation of patients presenting with solid tumours and malignancies.
  • Conduct daily morning ward rounds alongside the attending Consultant, documenting detailed, legible, and accurate clinical notes in accordance with JCI and hospital standards.
  • Oversee regular and acute direct admissions to the Oncology Unit, ensuring timely workups and active management plans are put in place.
  • Monitor, review, and adjust complex treatment regimens—including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies—under appropriate consultant guidance.
  • Respond efficiently to oncology-related emergencies, acute treatment toxicities, and rapid-response calls.

2. Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Actively participate in and present cases at weekly Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and Tumour Boards.
  • Maintain open, compassionate, and highly professional lines of communication with patients, families, and advocacy groups (e.g., Irish Cancer Society).
  • Collaborate seamlessly with specialized oncology liaison nurses, oncology pharmacy units, palliative care teams, and allied health professionals to coordinate smooth discharge planning.

3. Leadership, Education & Audit

  • Provide clinical supervision, training, and mentoring to Senior House Officers (SHOs) and Interns on the ward.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and risk management protocols to align with HSE and HIQA guidelines.
  • Contribute to clinical research projects, manuscript writing, and the integration of emerging technological developments in cancer care.

Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • Medical Degree: A recognized primary medical qualification eligible for registration.
  • Professional Registration: Active or fully eligible for registration in the General or Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland (IMC).
  • Clinical Experience: A minimum of 24 months of post-internship experience, with clear, dedicated experience within Oncology, Haematology, or acute Internal/General Medicine.
  • Certifications: Active Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Language Proficiency: Excellent command of both written and spoken English to effectively fulfill communication and clinical safety duties.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Completion of Basic Specialist Training (BST) in General Internal Medicine or equivalent international training.
  • Possession of a relevant post-graduate qualification (e.g., MRCPI or equivalent) is highly advantageous.
  • Prior experience participating in clinical cancer trials or formal hospital audits.

Core Competencies

  • Clinical Decision Making: Ability to confidently evaluate complex clinical information and formulate evidence-based treatment adjustments under pressure.
  • Teamwork & Interpersonal Skills: A proven track record of working collaboratively within tight-knit, cross-functional medical environments.
  • Patient-Centred Ethos: Exceptional empathy, respect, and emotional resilience when managing vulnerable patients and their families.
  • Adaptability: Openness to dynamic rosters, which include day, evening, night, weekend, and on-call duties.

Salary range

  • €70,276 - €82,756 per year
