We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country, with an annual income of £320m and a workforce of some 6,700 staff operating from around 100 sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. Are you interested in a dietetic career in the field of adult learning disabilities? We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Registered Dietitian to join our team of dietitians working within a specialist mental health and learning disabilities NHS Foundation Trust. This exciting post provides an opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills with adults with learning disabilities, in community and inpatient settings across Durham and Darlington. This will involve a strong emphasis on the management of obesity and associated long term health problems. In addition there will be some work in oral nutritional support. The post holder will have the opportunity to participate in policy development, audit, research activities, pathway development, staff and student training.
The successful post holder will also be part of the wider dietetic team within Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, which is an established, dynamic team of 27 Dietitians, 3 Associate Practitioners, 1 Trainee Nutritionist and 4 Dietetic Assistants working in a number of clinical areas throughout Teesside, Darlington, County Durham, North Yorkshire and the Vale of York. We have several experienced Clinical Lead Dietitians in the areas of adult eating disorders, adult mental health, children and young people's eating disorders, learning disabilities, older people and forensics. We have developed a high profile as a good quality dietetic service at both local and national levels and are the largest mental health and learning disability dietetic team in the UK. We have strong links with the Mental Health Specialist Group of the BDA and are committed to providing first class professional development.
Candidates should be a Registered Dietitian with significant experience in dietetics including experience working with service users in mental health or learning disabilities with complex needs. They should have excellent communication and IT skills. A working knowledge of behaviour change and motivational interviewing would be desirable. Regular clinical supervision will be provided and there will be opportunity for Continued Professional Development and post-graduate training.
