Job Description

Avon & Wiltshire Partnership is a large Mental Health Trust dedicated to the delivery of high quality clinical care. We seek candidates who have relevant experience, who are energetic in their commitment to service improvement and who have developed leadership skills.

The BaNES (Bath & North East Somerset) Adult Inpatient unit is seeking applications from Consultant Psychiatrists in Adults of Working Age for this full time post .

The inpatient unit has 15 beds and is situated within the grounds of The Royal United Hospital in Bath. It is an open ward for adults who are acutely unwell and admissions and discharges to the unit are arranged in close liaison with the Intensive Service, located within the same building.

The enthusiastic ward team comprises of a FT Associate Specialist and trainee doctors, Ward manager, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and a Move on Worker, who are all very experienced with inpatient work and provide excellent care for service users. The Post holder with be the Responsible Clinician for the inpatient unit.

There is access to consultation from AWP Forensic psychiatry services, when necessary for mentally disordered offenders.

The post holder will play a key role in providing leadership into improving care pathways and discharge planning for inpatients, through inclusive work with wider Multidisciplinary Teams locally and all other relevant parties, including family, carers and other agencies.

The post holder will be encouraged to consider management opportunities locally and within the wider AWP NHS Trust.

The BaNES locality of AWP is well served by a full range of mental health services including Recovery team, Early Intervention services in Psychosis, Hospital liaison, Psychological therapies Service, Intensive Service (24 Hours), Older Adult Community Team and acute and Organic inpatient teams.

All GP referrals are seen by the Primary Care Liaison Service.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive group of consultants already practicing within the locality as well as a cohesive consultant peer group and participate in the local 1 in 7 (pro rata) on call rota.

The beautiful World Heritage city of Bath is situated within easy distance of the M4 and is home to two large universities and a thriving tourist industry. The locality encompasses the urban area of Bath and its rural surrounds, with a wide degree of socioeconomic diversity.

Services have close links with the University of Bristol Medical School, with appropriate opportunities for undergraduate teaching experience and attracts psychiatric trainees within the Severn Deanery School of Psychiatry.
