Psychologist Grade II - Irish Prison Service, Dublin

Cpl Healthcare, on behalf of the Irish Prison Service (IPS) are recruiting for a locum Staff Grade (Grade II) Psychologist to work in a full-time split post between the Dóchas Centre for women and the new IPS Training Unit, Mountjoy.

Commencing on 1st December 2019, this is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.  It is anticipated that interviews will be held in Mid-End October 2019.

Dóchas Centre for women in custody is a rewarding and challenging working environment. The IPS Psychology Service at Dóchas Centre is a dynamic one, responding to the diverse psychological needs of our clients within a multidisciplinary team framework.

 

Desirable experience:

  • An in-depth understanding of women’s offending and associated complex factors including those related to mental health, personality disorder and sequelae of trauma.
  • Advanced competencies in therapeutic working (individual and systemic) within trauma specific frameworks.
  • In-depth understanding of interpersonal dynamics associated with intimate partner and sexual violence.
  • Flexible interpersonal responding within robust professional boundaries.  
  • Previous experience of risk assessment (self and other directed).

 

The IPS Training Unit is currently being repurposed to provide a unique and more suitable environment for older adults in custody.  The Unit will re-open in early 2020 and the IPS Psychology Service will provide age-appropriate psychological assessment and intervention within a multi-disciplinary team framework.

 

Desirable experience:

  • In-depth knowledge of psychopathology within the aging population including awareness of the social/psychological dynamics of the aging process.
  • Experience of supporting the mental health needs of older adults, including that associated with age related physical disability, cognitive decline and chronic illness.
  • Proficiency in neuropsychological assessment and functional assessment.
  • Previous experience of risk assessment (self and other directed).

We welcome applications from experienced Psychologists as well as 2019 graduates.

Interested candidates must:

  • Hold a postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology recognised by PSI. (Applicants with qualifications obtained outside of Ireland must obtain a relevant statement of equivalence in from the Department of Health);
  • Be eligible for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or the British Psychological Society (BPS).
