Job Description

Highly Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist
Are you interested in working in a centre of excellence with high standards of care, research and training opportunities? If so, Great Ormond Street Hospital, a world renowned tertiary centre treating children and young people, currently has a fixed-term vacancy for an experienced Occupational Therapist.
This post, available from January 2020 to cover a maternity leave, provides an exciting and rare opportunity to work across both our acute and outpatient services within the neuro-disability multi-disciplinary team. We are therefore looking to appoint an individual with experience of working with children and young people with complex presentations and neurological difficulties, who has previously worked in either an acute or community based setting. The post holder will need a broad range of clinical skills in relation to working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental disabilities that impact on occupational engagement. We will provide the opportunity to experience and develop skills relating to providing the expert level of care required within a tertiary setting.
The post-holder will be providing Occupational Therapy to the Movement Disorders Service within Neurodisability, working with children and young people seen for Botulinum Toxin injections or who are undergoing Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery. Knowledge of upper limb anatomy and the evidence-base behind upper-limb interventions are a necessity in order to ensure that the children and young people are supported to make functional gains. The ability to promote a functional approach that both enables engagement in meaningful occupations and promotes participation is also required.
The successful candidate will be supervised and line managed by the Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist in Neurodisability. They will also benefit from working within an extremely supportive Occupational Therapy Team which comprises 28 permanent staff. We have a flexible and robust supervision process and a continuing professional development structure that includes regular in-service training to support personal and professional development. Training from other specialists is available within the hospital and externally and participation in research & audit is actively encouraged. The hospital also has links with UCL which enables staff to access facilities including the library.
