Role Overview
The Theatre Staff Nurse provides specialist nursing care within the operating theatre, supporting surgical procedures as a scrub nurse. You will ensure safe, efficient surgical care while maintaining high clinical standards and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in surgical procedures as a scrub nurse
- Prepare theatre, instruments, and equipment for surgery
- Support surgeons during operations
- Maintain a sterile environment at all times
- Provide care before, during, and after surgery
- Support patients and families with reassurance and information
- Administer medications safely
- Maintain controlled drug records
- Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff
- Supervise and support junior staff
- Maintain accurate patient documentation (e.g. electronic systems)
- Take charge of the unit when required
Essential
- Registered General Nurse (NMBI)
- Minimum 2 years acute hospital experience
- At least 1 year theatre/scrub experience
- Strong surgical and clinical skills
- Good teamwork and communication
- Leadership ability
- Attention to detail and organisation
- IT and documentation skills
