  • Liaise with clinical teams regarding specimen requirements, urgent requests, and initial pathology findings.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in laboratory and associated systems (LIS/EMR).
  • Support the department’s quality‑improvement and audit initiatives.
  • Assist in the education and orientation of junior medical or paramedical staff in laboratory procedures and safety.
  • Uphold strict health‑and‑safety, bio‑hazard, and infection‑control standards throughout the pathology environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, organisation, and documentation skills.
  • Eligibility to work in Ireland (e.g., Irish/UK/EU passport or Stamp 4).

Skills and Competencies

  • Sound clinical judgment and attention to detail in a laboratory context.
  • Comfort working in a high‑throughput pathology or cytopathology environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adhere to precise protocols.
  • Professional, adaptable, and reliable approach to locum work.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills with laboratory and clinical colleagues.

Working Conditions

  • Shift‑based or structured laboratory‑oriented rota, often including day and potentially evening sessions.
  • Busy pathology or haematology laboratory environment with exposure to histology, cytology, and basic haematology workflows.
  • High‑accuracy, time‑dependent workload with strong emphasis on safety and traceability.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Competitive locum or SHO‑level remuneration, depending on the hospital and experience.
  • Flexible working arrangements and opportunities for extension or rotation across pathology services.

Experience

  • 2 - 3 years of experience
