Job Description

Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust(AWP) provides inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. We also provide specialist services extending throughout the south west.
We employ over 4,000 dedicated members of staff who deliver services from more than 90 locations, working in approximately 150 teams across a geographical region of 2,200 miles, for a population of approximately 1.8million people.

This would be a great opportunity for you to join the Forensic Social Work service in this fascinating area of Mental Health. The social work team based within the unit is committed to meet the needs of service users detained here under the Mental Health Act.
Fromeside is a modern and well equipped 81 bed Medium Secure Unit. This post would enable you to use your social work skills to make a significant difference to the lives of service users.
The social workers are respected and greatly valued within this service. You would be a member of a supportive social work team, while working across the service with the service users in the multi-disciplinary teams. You would also work in partnership with carers and local services across the region.
The post-holder will have a commitment to a social care perspective including maximising the quality of life for service users and balancing their rights with the protection of the public. There is a requirement to work in an anti-oppressive manner, challenging any discrimination appropriately and safeguarding the vulnerable. You would have a valuable role in intervening to improve the lives of individuals.
Previous experience of working with service users who have severe mental health problems is essential and some experience in a statutory setting is required. Experience of Part 3 of the Mental Health Act would be advantageous.
Service users will be involved in the recruitment process.
