Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine - University Hospital Limerick
About the Role
University Hospital Limerick (UHL) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine to join our dynamic Emergency Department team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a busy and progressive department, providing high-quality emergency care to children and young people across the Mid-West region.
As a Consultant, you will play a key leadership role in developing paediatric emergency services, ensuring the delivery of safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care. You will also contribute to the education and training of junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals, while supporting the ongoing development of integrated paediatric pathways across the hospital and community settings.
Key Responsibilities
Provide specialist clinical care to paediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
Lead and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions and clinical audits.
Support continuous quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Contribute to teaching and mentoring of NCHDs, nursing staff, and students.
Engage in research, clinical governance, and service development.
Participate in the consultant on-call rota.
Essential Requirements
Registration (or eligibility for registration) on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council Register in Paediatrics and/or Emergency Medicine.
Proven experience in paediatric emergency care within an acute hospital setting.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
