Job Description
Senior Occupational Therapist – Limerick
Role Purpose
The Senior Occupational Therapist will provide high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy within a person-centred model, supporting adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, mental health needs, sensory and physical impairments, and behaviours that challenge. The post involves direct clinical caseload management, service development, training and supervision, and active participation in multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs).
Essential Qualifications
- CORU-recognised Occupational Therapy qualification.
Desirable: Sensory Integration modules.
Essential Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience.
- Work with adults with autism, intellectual disabilities, mental health needs and complex behaviours.
- Knowledge of sensory processing in adults.
- Experience working as part of an MDT.
Desirable: Experience with mental health teams.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Caseload
- Deliver assessments, interventions, care planning, onward referrals.
- Manage complex clinical caseloads with advanced reasoning and autonomous decision-making.
- Recommend and oversee therapy programmes, adaptations, equipment, and activities.
- Contribute to planning of new facilities and ensure environments meet service-user needs.
- Maintain comprehensive clinical and statistical records.
Training & Supervision
- Train staff, families, and service users where relevant.
- Supervise staff-grade OTs and students, liaising with Practice Education Facilitators.
- Participate in professional supervision and service evaluation.
Multi-Disciplinary & Service Development
- Collaborate with MDT colleagues.
- Support policy and service development across OT services.
- Engage in service planning, audit, and research to ensure best practice.
Professionalism
- Maintain CORU standards and code of ethics.
- Keep up to date with clinical and service developments.
- Adhere to health & safety, GDPR, infection control, confidentiality, and safeguarding obligations.
Terms & Conditions
- Contract: Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week). Flexibility required for evenings/weekends.
- Salary: €63,279–€74,509 (pro rata, including LSIs).
- Probation: 9 months, extendable by 3 months.
- Annual Leave: 29 days + 10 public holidays.
- Pension: Membership of relevant public service pension scheme depending on service history.
- Garda Vetting: Mandatory, with re-vetting where required.
- Retirement age: In line with public service pension scheme rules (generally between 65–70 depending on scheme).
