Job Description
Job: Staff Grade Speech & Language Therapist - Acute/Older persons
Location: Ennis, Co. Clare
Hours: 35 hours per week, 8.30am/9am to 4pm/4.30pm, Mon-Friday
Contract: 3-6-month agency, with probable extension
Salary: HSE Pay Scales (dependent on experience)

Excel Recruitment are recruiting a Staff Grade Speech & Language Therapist for an acute rehabilitation hospital in Ennis, Co. Clare. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, working directly with patients who are on their recovery journey after illness, injury, or neurological events.
Job Purpose
As a Speech & Language Therapist in this setting, you will be assessing and treating adults with swallowing and communication difficulties, ensuring every patient has the best chance at recovery and an improved quality of life. You will bring compassion, clinical expertise, and teamwork to a service that places older people and their families at the centre of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for adults with swallowing, communication, and cognitive-communication disorders
- Deliver specialist dysphagia assessments and evidence-based interventions
- Work closely with patients with neurological conditions including stroke, acquired brain injury, and progressive neurological disease
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide holistic care tailored to each patient
- Educate and support patients, families, and healthcare staff to ensure safe, effective care
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to service development
Essential Requirements
- Recognised qualification in Speech & Language Therapy
- CORU registration (essential)
- Dysphagia qualification (essential)
- Relevant acute hospital or rehabilitation experience
- Experience working with older adults with communication and swallowing needs
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and organisational skills
