Job Description
Basic Grade Occupational Therapist
About the Service:
This is a large HSE funded mental health service provides a spectrum of neuropsychiatric care to adults with complex and enduring mental health needs, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s disease, early onset dementias, schizophrenia, and mood disorders. It is the only facility in Ireland offering a high level of specialised care for Huntington’s disease.
The service focuses on creating a therapeutic environment using recovery-oriented clinical practices and evidence-based interventions to help patients achieve their highest level of functioning and quality of life. Care is delivered through a multidisciplinary team including Psychiatry, Psychology, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Dietetics, Physiotherapy, and General Practice.
Role Summary:
The Occupational Therapist will work with residents with severe and enduring mental illness and complex needs. This is a pivotal post with responsibility for leading and managing an Occupational Therapy caseload.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver the highest standard of clinical care in Occupational Therapy in line with local and national standards.
Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment/intervention programmes according to professional standards.
Collaborate with residents, families, carers, and staff in goal setting and treatment planning.
Actively participate in the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Maintain comprehensive clinical records of assessments, interventions, and related discussions.
Provide Occupational Therapy services within a legally compliant and efficient framework.
Contribute to clinical governance and assist in strategic and operational planning.
Participate in monthly supervision with the Senior Occupational Therapist.
Essential Requirements:
Registration on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by CORU.
Degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent) and eligibility for AOTI membership.
Strong knowledge of health, safety, and statutory regulations relevant to healthcare.
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Proficient IT skills.
Patient-focused, responsible, and professional approach.
Confidence, enthusiasm, and strong influencing/negotiation abilities.
