Job Description

Job Title: CNM1

Department: Urology Day Unit

Reports to: CNM2

Overall Purpose of Job

The mission of our client Hospital is to provide exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, caring and compassion are at the centre of all we do.

The Clinical Nurse Manager 1 (CNM1) in the Urology Day Unit is responsible for supporting the CNM2 in planning, coordination and oversight of all daily clinical activities within the unit. The CNM 1 ensures that high-quality, safe, and efficient care is delivered to urology patients undergoing day procedures. They will coordinate patient flow, liaising with decontamination and support the overall functioning of the unit while maintaining clear and compassionate communication with patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

§ Performs clinical nursing duties in the Urology Day Unit in accordance with best practice.

§ Coordinate the daily operations of the unit.

§ Monitor patient conditions and care needs specific to urology procedures and diagnostics.

§ Assesses staff competencies and makes patient care assignments.

§ Delegates tasks to appropriately and support junior staff.

§ Assists in the development and management of staff rosters and ensure adequate skill mix.

§ Participate in staff planning and performance feedback.

§ Act as a mentor and support preceptorship programme within the unit.

§ Maintains clear communications with the Nurse Manager regarding unit needs and incidents.

§ Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.

Clinical Responsibilities

The post holder will be familiar with and adhere to The Professional Scope of Practice Framework (An Bord Altranais 2015).

§ The post holder will partake in the Total Quality Management processes thereby contributing to:

§ The setting of standards and the identification of quality guideline issues.

§ The evaluation of current practices to ensure they are in line with best practice.

§ Effective participation in all hospital audit processes including the hospital Wide Accreditation Cycle.

Leadership Responsibilities

§ Act as a clinical leader and resource within the Urology Day Unit.

§ Contribute to policy development and implementation.

§ Demonstrate effective use of resources and cost containment practices.

§ Maintain a visible leadership presence on the unit during clinical shifts.

§ Respond to changing patient volumes with appropriate staffing adjustments.

Educational Responsibilities

§ Support orientation and ongoing education of staff in urology-specific practices.

§ Identify learning needs within the unit and help coordinate training sessions.

§ Stay up-to-date with developments in urological nursing and day surgery care.

§ Encourage a learning culture through coaching and knowledge sharing.

Person Specification

Qualification

§ NMBI General Nurse license in good standing.

Experience

§ 5 years’ clinical experience preferred.

§ Experience in Urology Day Care desirable.

Strong organisational and time management skills.

Ability to adapt to a fast-paced day unit setting.
