Job Description
Job Title: Consultant Physician
Location: West of Ireland
Contract Type: Full-time Permanent
Reports to: Medical Director / Clinical Lead
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant Physician to join our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality, patient-centred care in accordance with the standards of the Irish Medical Council guidelines. This role offers a unique opportunity to practice in a supportive and progressive clinical environment with a strong focus on continuity of care and clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of adult medical patients.
Deliver outpatient consultations and support chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, COPD).
Collaborate with GPs, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, if applicable.
Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and case discussions.
Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and quality improvement initiatives.
Ensure meticulous clinical documentation and compliance with GDPR and medical record-keeping standards.
Maintain professional development and meet CPD requirements of the Irish Medical Council.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Medical Degree (MB BCh BAO or equivalent).
Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council in General Internal Medicine (or relevant subspecialty).
Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent) desirable.
Minimum of 7 years post-graduate medical experience, including consultant-level experience.
Demonstrated expertise in managing a broad range of medical conditions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong commitment to patient safety and clinical governance.
Desirable Skills:
Experience working in a community or outpatient clinic setting.
Interest in teaching or medical education.
Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Experience in service development or quality improvement.
