Job Description
Job Title: Occupational Therapist -Young Adult Mental Health
Location: Portlaoise, Co. Laois
Contract type: 1 year contract, Full Time 35 hours per week
Salary: HSE Pay Scale Applies, depending on experience.
Excel Recruitment is currently seeking a Staff Grade Occupational Therapist to join a progressive Young Adult Mental Health Team based in Portlaoise.
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist who is eager to contribute to a collaborative and innovative mental health service that puts young people at the centre of their care.
You'll work alongside a dynamic team of professionals, offering therapeutic input to young adults navigating complex mental health challenges. This role will allow you to apply your clinical expertise across a variety of interventions, while gaining valuable experience in a specialised mental health setting.

Primary Duties:
- Conduct occupational therapy assessments to evaluate how young people's mental health conditions impact their daily lives.
- Develop and implement individualised intervention plans to support independent living, education, and social participation.
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers.
- Actively participate in care planning, goal setting, and discharge planning for service users.
- Deliver one-to-one and group-based interventions focused on enhancing functional skills, coping strategies, and overall well-being.
- Support service users in building confidence, managing daily activities, and reintegrating into community life.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with best practices and regulatory standards.
To be successful in this role, you will:
- BSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
- Hold full CORU registration
- Ability to work with individuals/groups within a supportive environment.
- Passion for working with young adults in mental health settings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team and with service users.
- Ability to deliver therapeutic interventions in both individual and group settings.
- Previous experience in Mental Health or Young Adult Services is desirable but not essential.
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload
- IT skills/knowledge appropriate to the role
