Job Description
Vhi Group Technology are looking to hire a Platform Engineering Manager who will manage the day to day within our Platform Engineering Teams, this includes coordinating workload with the teams, working with Principal Engineers and stakeholders to gather product team requirements for application support and infrastructure.
As a Platform Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for teams that design, build, and maintain the infrastructure and tools that enable the development and operation of software. This encompasses the creation of a cohesive and reliable foundation that supports the deployment and scaling of applications, infrastructure, services, and other software components.
The Platform Engineering Manager role involves a combination of people management, leadership architectural design, system integration, automation, and continuous improvement experience and skills required to meet the evolving needs of Vhi, our customers and our patients.
The successful candidate must demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset that is firmly based on a passionate desire to improve the performance of people, processes and technologies that apply in the Platform Engineering domain .
Role purpose:
- Scheduling, planning and co-ordination of production releases ( process adherence, scheduling, governance, reporting).
- Lead the assessment, analysis, planning and design of release packages, including assessment of risk.
- Ensure appropriate action is taken to anticipate, investigate, track and resolve problems in infrastructure and applications. Coordinate the non-prod environment support teams to ensure one front door for platform engineering support is in place (including JSM process to track, measure and report)
- Oversee the planning, installation, maintenance and acceptance of new and updated infrastructure components and infrastructure-based services. Align to service expectations, security requirements and other quality standards.
- Investigate and manages the adoption of tools, techniques and processes (including automation) for the management of systems and applications.
- Develop, maintain and test incident management procedures in agreement with service owners.
- Plan and drive activities to develop organisational systems integration and build capabilities including automation and continuous integration.
- Provide guidance to individuals on long-term development goals and career opportunities, considering an individual's strengths and preferences.
- Improving organisational performance by developing the performance of individuals and workgroups to meet agreed objectives with measurable results.
Education and experience
- BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
- Advanced knowledge of DevOps and Platform Engineering principles, process and technologies.
- 5+ years software development experience covering the full development Waterfall and Agile lifecycles working with business users and IT teams.
- 3+ years in a Platform Engineering leadership role
- Proven track record prioritising multiple projects or Platform Engineering initiatives and ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Experience in designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure and tools that enable the development and operation of software in a hybrid environment.
- Experience of allocating, deploying, automating, maintaining and managing Non-Production & Production environments in a highly complex and tightly coupled estate with a strong focus on Infrastructure as Code.
- Excellent working knowledge of Source Code Management, CI/CD automation & optimisation, GitOps, methodologies and tools.
- Experience in implementing monitoring & alerting solutions using automation and observation technologies.
- Excellent understanding of infrastructure, networking, and IT services.
- Interest and drive in staying informed with evolving best practice, industry and technology trends.
- Excellent people and relationship skills with ability to negotiate and influence.
- Problem solving with proven track record of achievements and innovation.
- Target oriented with the ability to perform and align with Agile methodologies.
- Process-oriented with a focus on problem identification, decision-making, solution implementation and day to day operational management.
- Demonstrated alignment to the Vhi values.
