Job Description
?? Job Title: Oncology Registrar
Location: Public Hospital - South of Ireland
Department: Medical Oncology
Contract Type: Full-Time
Start Date: July 2025
?? Role Overview
We are currently seeking a committed and skilled Oncology Registrar to join the Medical Oncology Department at a public hospital in Ireland. The successful candidate will support the provision of high-quality cancer care as part of a multidisciplinary team and contribute to the ongoing development of oncology services.
The role offers excellent exposure to both solid and hematologic malignancies, as well as opportunities for participation in clinical research, audits, and teaching.
????? Key Responsibilities
Provide inpatient and outpatient care to oncology patients under consultant supervision
Participate in oncology clinics, day ward reviews, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings
Assist in the diagnosis, treatment planning, and management of patients undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiotherapy
Perform and interpret relevant investigations (e.g., bloods, imaging, biopsies)
Manage oncologic emergencies (e.g. febrile neutropenia, tumor lysis syndrome)
Document patient care accurately using electronic medical records
Participate in on-call rota as required by the hospital
Engage in teaching of medical students and junior doctors
Contribute to quality improvement projects, clinical audits, and research initiatives
?? Qualifications & Experience
Hold or be eligible for General Registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC)
Minimum of 3 years postgraduate clinical experience, ideally including time in oncology, haematology, or internal medicine
Completion of (or working toward) BST or equivalent in general/internal medicine preferred
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
Commitment to continued medical education and evidence-based practice
Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment
