Job Description

The Health Research Board (HRB) is a statutory agency under the aegis of the Department of Health. As the lead agency in Ireland responsible for supporting and funding health research, generating health information and promoting the use of evidence in policy and practice, we are motivated and inspired by our vision – for better health through excellent research, data and evidence. The HRB’s mission is to support research that improves people's health, promotes evidence-informed care and creates solutions to societal challenges. The HRB is seeking an excellent candidate for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Chief Executive Officer will report to the Board of the HRB. The ideal candidate will be an inspiring and strategic leader, with a proven track record of achievement in research, healthcare, fostering partnerships and driving impactful research initiatives across the public and/or private sector.

The ideal candidate will have / demonstrate:

Essential Requirements:

• The successful candidate must have achieved a qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) of Level 9 or higher, or if in receipt of a qualification outside of Ireland, it must be the equivalent level on the relevant framework.

• The successful candidate must have a minimum of 10 years relevant experience at a senior level including experience as a leader of high performing teams.

• A strategic understanding of health research, health information systems and evidence at a senior level in a research and/or research management environment;

• Strategic leadership with a proven track record of consistent delivery of results at senior management level;

• A proven ability to develop and implement a high level of strategy and policy and have proven experience in operational management with significant resources;

Desirable Requirements:

It is desirable for the successful candidate to have:

• Exceptional communication skills including speaking publicly, the ability to positively influence policy and direction at senior levels within an advisory capacity, and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders Experience of working at a senior level in a cross-border regulatory environment;

• Evidence of experience in leading influential research projects in the healthcare sector and of being responsible for research programmes or studies.
