Job Description

Consultant in Emergency Medicine
Cork University Hospital (CUH)

Cork University Hospital (CUH), one of Ireland's largest and busiest acute hospitals, is looking for a dedicated and experienced Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join its dynamic and progressive Emergency Department. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in the continued development of emergency services within a major tertiary hospital, while living in one of Ireland's most vibrant and liveable cities.

Why CUH?

As the largest university teaching hospital in the South/Southwest Hospital Group, CUH provides a comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialties and is a centre of excellence in trauma, cancer care, cardiology, neurology, and paediatrics.

CUH is home to Ireland's only Level 1 Trauma Centre and operates in close partnership with University College Cork (UCC), making it a leading site for clinical research, innovation, and education.

Located just 10 minutes from Cork city centre, CUH offers the chance to work in a high-acuity environment while enjoying all the benefits of life in a coastal city with great schools, transport links, restaurants, and outdoor activities.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the ED Team: Guide and support a multidisciplinary Emergency Department team, including NCHDs, nursing, and allied health professionals.

  • Deliver High-Quality Care: Provide fast, effective, and evidence-based treatment to patients in a busy emergency setting.

  • Drive Innovation: Contribute to service development and quality improvement projects aligned with the hospital's strategic goals.

  • Collaborate Across Specialties: Work closely with colleagues in acute medicine, surgery, ICU, and hospital management to enhance patient flow and service delivery.

  • Education & Research: Support the teaching of medical students and trainees, and participate in academic activities linked to UCC where appropriate.

What We're Looking For:

  • 2+ years post-CCT experience in Emergency Medicine.

  • Strong clinical leadership and communication skills.

  • A commitment to excellence in patient care and continuous improvement.

  • Active IMC Specialist Registration (or eligiable) in Emergency Medicine.

Location: Cork University Hospital, Cork City
