Job Description

The Director of Nursing has a pivotal role in creating the vision and culture for our Nursing Home. S/he has overarching responsibility for service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources and will lead in the implementation of change. S/he will empower staff to support older people to continue to exercise independence.

The Director of Nursing will be responsible for the overall management of the clinical services of the care facility. S/he will provide strategic leadership, operating in accordance with the policies of the SMG Congregation and in collaboration with other professionals and service managers in achieving service goals.

Candidates must have at the latest date of application: -

be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses as retained by the Nursing Midwifery Board Ireland (An Bord Altranais) or be entitled to be so registered

have at least three years experience nursing older people in the last six years i.e. as Director of Nursing or Assistant DON

have a minimum of two years management experience i.e. clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role

excellent interpersonal, communication, people and computer skills

have engaged in continuous professional development i.e. post graduate diploma in gerontology and/ or a management qualification desirable

thorough knowledge of HIQA standards and regulations
