Location: The Society operates a hybrid working model with a combination of remote and in-person (Dublin office) working and one day a week working in CHI Crumlin

Salary:€58,300 per annum

Our CAYA team provide support to every child and young person diagnosed with cancer in Ireland. We are there to provide advice, practical support, grants and services to children, adolescents and young adults in many ways making a real and valuable difference as they navigate a cancer diagnosis.

We’re looking for a CAYA Cancer Nurse Coordinator to join our team. As CAYA Cancer Nurse Coordinator you will assist with the coordination and planning of the Irish Cancer Society’s work activities in relation to childhood and adolescent cancer in conjunction with various internal departments. The CAYA Cancer Nurse Coordinator is an integral part of the CAYA team, which includes an Advocacy Policy officer and reports to the Head of Children, Adolescents and Young Adults.

The successful candidate will be an experienced nurse, passionate about Children ,Adolescents and Young Adults who wants to make a real difference to this group and their families directly affected by cancer.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Cancer Support line and Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin

• Attend Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin one day per week to provide free, confidential advice, support and information to anyone affected by a child’s cancer.

• Develop strong links and foster relationships with hospitals staff treating children’s cancer.

• Respond to all queries on children’s cancer in a supportive timely manner ensuring enquirer dignity.

• Maintain confidentiality and anonymity in accordance to Irish Cancer Society’s policies and procedures.

• Deal with queries in relation to children’s cancers received via email and the Society’s social media channels.

• Make every effort to ensure that evidence-based information is given to enquirers, both verbal and written, is from reliable sources.

• Forward information to enquirers (e.g. leaflets, booklets, forms etc.) or ‘sign post’ them to relevant Irish Cancer Society supports and services as well as other relevant health care professionals or organisations.

• Interpret and analyse relevant research relating to children’s cancer and disseminate to colleagues on Cancer Support line and Irish Cancer Staff as appropriate.

• Be actively involved in educating students, presenting posters and presentations on aspects of the role and the work of the Irish Cancer Society in paediatric oncology at conferences and/or the publication of articles within appropriate journals.

• Act as a resource on CAYA cancer for internal Irish Cancer Society departments such as Advocacy, Communication, Research and Fundraising.

• Assist with the promotion of the Society’s Parent Support Volunteers and partake in recruitment of new members.

• Assist with the promotion of the Society’s Volunteers Driver Service and actively partake in the development of the service for the CAYA group.

• Participate and assist with the Irish Cancer Society exhibition stands at various workshops /conferences/awareness days for both patients, parents and health care professionals.

• Keep informed and participate in Irish Cancer Society campaigns and events as required, which may result in an increased number of calls or emails on a specific issue.

• Take part in media relations activity on behalf of the Irish Cancer Society.

• Act as deputy Designated Liaison Person for child safeguarding within the Irish Cancer Society

• Provide clinical advice and guidance to members of the team within the support line or Daffodil centres & Hubs

• Operate within scope of practice and NMBI code of Professional Conduct in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Registered General Nurse on the active General Division register of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

• Meaningful clinical experience in Oncology Haematology of at least five years’ in duration. The Society measures experience based on the quality of the experience obtained, rather than in time passed and welcomes applicants at all stages of their career.

• Experience in children’s and/or young adult’s cancer nursing is desirable but not essential.

• A post-graduate qualification in Haematology Oncology Nursing or palliative care or its equivalent, is an advantage.
