Job Description

Psychologist – Rehabilitation Treatment program

Psychologist required for voluntary sector organisation providing a range of services to support the safe integration of prisoners, ex-prisoners, offenders and ex-offenders into the community.
This is done though addressing the treatment and support needs of the target group,  working with them so that they can earn their place in society and to develop a pro-social identity that is based around non-offending behaviour.

The services consists of three programmes that work with clients with complex needs who pose a significant risk of reoffending sexually. The focus of the Prevention Services is on managing and reducing the risk of re-offending.

The programme is a group therapeutic programme designed to assist men to understand their offending behaviour and the harm it caused, and to develop the knowledge and skills to live a life that is safer for themselves, their families and their communities, incorporating a desistance approach. The interventions focus on supporting individuals to take full responsibility for their harmful sexual behaviour and to identify and adopt new goals that are personally meaningful, and congruent with desistance processes.

Collaborating with the Probation Service to address risk and enhance community engagement of participants, the program operates in Dublin and Cork and welcomes referrals from Probation Officers nationally.

This role is based in Dublin with weekly travel to Cork, it also offers hybrid working options.
Interested candidates must:

  • Hold a postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical Psychology or  Counselling Psychology recognised by PSI.
  • Have experience of working therapeutically with complex clients
  • Have knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • Have knowledge of managing a client with suicidal ideation
  • An understanding of the needs of medium-high risk sex offenders
  • Experience of working with people with mental health issues
  • An understanding of the needs of medium-high risk sex offenders
