Job Description
Cpl Healthcare in partnership with the Valeo, Ireland, are seeking an experienced Occupational Health Specialist (OHN) for a manufacturing environment in Tuam, Galway. 12 Month Maternity Contract Post.
Requirements of Role;
To promote and maintain the highest degree of physical, mental and social well being of employees in the
workplace, continuously identifying, planning and delivering proactive occupational health programs and
wellness initiatives in line with recognised best practice
Responsibilities;
- Support Site initiatives across all shifts to prevent accidents and ill health at work, ensuring a proactive approach in identifying and addressing key Site Occupational Health and Safety concerns.
- Develop and implement and take responsibility for the Site Wellbeing strategy liaising with key stakeholders to implement proactive wellness and engagement initiatives
- Maintain health at work through pre-employment medical health assessments, health surveillance and health promotion programmes ensuring that these programs meet best practices standards
- Carry out individual occupational health related reviews of employees as required and arrange appropriate referrals to Occupational Medical services, General Practice or EAP services where required
- Manage all Occupational Health elements of absenteeism cases, applying best practice case management techniques in terms of fitness to work assessments. Assist HR and Line Managers in managing absenteeism and ensuring a timely return to work
- Lead the Site Ergonomics Program, ensuring Ergonomic Top 5 and associated deployment plan meet requirements of the IP Safety & Ergonomics roadmap. Complete and track ergonomic workstation assessments for all existing and new work stations and implement Site DSE Assessment Program
- Lead the Chemical Management Program on site. Regular reviews of respirators, complete individual fit testing, complete reviews of SDSs and carry out Chemical Risk Assessments. Assist in the management and close out of accidents or occupational ill health cases and review employees on a case by case basis where required. Take a leadership role in terms of First Aid Team, coaching and mentoring the team as needed with regard to best practice in terms of first aid treatment and documentation.
- Participate in Site Risk Assessment and Audit programs, managing Pregnancy Risk Assessments across the Site and participating in other risk assessment and audit programs e.g. internal and external audit programs
- Maintain the occupational health unit, supplies and equipment and manage all other first aid supplies and equipment on Site e.g. defibrillators ensuring checks are completed and Occupational Health unit equipment is calibrated as required
- Participate and support onsite training eg: HSE Induction, Ergonomics and Manual Handling.
- Work closely with HR & the Management team to ensure best practice, cost efficient practices and policies to enable and support the health & wellbeing of all employees.
Essential Criteria;
- Registered General Nurse (NMBI)
- Higher Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health & Safety related discipline essential.
- Computer skills are essential
Essential Experience;
- At least three years experience in Occupational Health preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Be competent in phlebotomy, spirometry and audiometry
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be proactive, confident and well organised with outstanding attention to detail
