Job Title ; Peri-Operative Quality Improvement Facilitator

Department ; Surgical Services

Reports to ; Head of Surgical Services

Overall Purpose of Job

The Peri-Operative Quality Improvement Facilitator/Educator, a professional registered nurse, has the authority, responsibility and accountability for the delivery of Quality / Education within the surgical services area at Beacon Hospital based on evidence-based practice. The continued development of nursing standards, policies, procedures and ongoing support for staff are amongst the main objectives for this role. The Peri-Operative Quality Improvement Facilitator / Educator applies expert clinical knowledge and skills to provide the leadership and support needed to achieve quality patient care outcomes.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

· Work with Theatre Manager and Director of Surgical Services and operational staff to identify, prioritise and scope improvement projects.

· Facilitate the completion of improvement project charter and quality assures draught charters.

· Track and produce a report on the progress of improvement projects.

· Develop pathway improvement in technical skills and build confidence in their application.

· Project manage pathway improvement projects and other related improvement initiatives.

· Provide coaching and workshop facilitation support to improvement of project teams.

· Development and Implementation of KPI’s for Surgical Services.

· Deliver training in improvement tools and techniques.

· Promote cross project learning and other knowledge development initiatives.

· To survey and interview surgical patients to assess their patient journey with Beacon Hospital.

· To solicit improvement suggestions from patient feedback.

· To map and understand the end to end peri-operative patient flow.

· To ensure there are appropriate peri-operative pathway guidelines, protocols, algorithms and checklists.

· Working with Theatre Manager and staff members to recommend, refine, implement and maintain key surgery pathway performance measures and dashboards.

· In collaboration with the Quality and Safety Team – ensure there is a clear set of pathways safety measures which may include medication error, SSI, wrong site surgery, etc.

· This position is responsible for new hire education, mandatory education and competency development under the direction of Surgical Services Manager to include Medical/Physiotherapy and Nursing Students.

· Assist the Theatre Manager and Coordinators in maintenance, assessment and evaluation of nursing practice.

· Work together with the Quality Department on JCI standards implementation.

· Keep the Departmental Risk Register up to date

· Encourage Reporting culture in surgical services and training new staff to complete quality notification

· Communicate the Root Cause Analysis and agreed action plans with the Team

· Give update in staff meeting regarding the recent quality notifications and lessons learned from It

· The Post Holder will work closely with CNM2, Theatre manager, Quality and patient safety team to drive core programmes in quality, safety and Risk Management in line with the Hospital strategic Goals.

Qualifications

§ NMBI Registered General Nurse.

§ Has completed further study at degree level or postgraduate level in a field relevant to nursing.

§ Qualification /Experience in Patient Safety and Quality is desirable

Experience

§ Five years’ experience in perioperative setting.

§ Up to date Clinical skills.

§ A minimum of 2 years Management experience.

§ Demonstrate experience in mentorship and preceptorship.
