Job Description
Locum Senior Psychologist (0.5 WTE), IPS Psychology Service, Arbour Hill Prison (Clinical or Counselling Psychologist)
A Senior Psychologist is required to fill a part time (0.5 WTE) locum position in the IPS Psychology Service, based at Arbour Hill Prison.
Key duties of the position include:
1.Delivering a professional Psychology Service in Arbour Hill Prison in line with best practice;
2.Supporting the Principal Psychologist and Head of Service in the implementation of new initiatives related to sex offender intervention;
3.Maintaining ongoing contact with the Senior Psychologist in Midlands Prison to support joint programmes for the sex offender population across both prisons;
4.Carrying a clinical caseload appropriate to the post, including psychological assessment and intervention (group and individual);
5.Providing line management and clinical supervision to other Psychology Service staff members;
6.Writing high quality, succinct professional reports as required in accordance with professional standards outlined in Psychology Service protocols;
Applymunicate effectively and work in co-operation with the MDT to ensure integrated sentence planning and service provision, particularly with the Probation Service in Arbour Hill Prison;
8.Attend key meetings relating to a) the sex offender intervention programme, b) Arbour Hill Prison and c) the IPS Psychology Service;
Essential qualifications and competencies
1.Candidates must on or before the closing date,
(a) Be eligible for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) or the British Psychological Society (BPS).
and
(b)(i) Hold a postgraduate professional qualification in Clinical Psychology recognised by PSI. (Applicants with qualifications obtained outside of Ireland must obtain a statement of equivalence in Clinical Psychology from the Department of Health);
or
(ii) Hold a postgraduate professional qualification in Counselling Psychology recognised by PSI. (Applicants with qualifications obtained outside of Ireland must obtain a statement of equivalence in Counselling Psychology from the Department of Health);
In addition to the above, the following are desirable but not essential requirement:
A minimum two years post graduate experience as a Counselling or Clinical Psychologist with a significant amount working within a mental health and/sexual offender population.
Experience in addressing emotional, mental health and offence-related difficulties with a forensic population and a group setting.
Experience of providing consultation, education, guidance and support to multidisciplinary colleagues.
Further therapeutic or research qualifications.
Experience providing supervision and / or line management experience is desirable.
