Salary: €45,000 - €57,000 per year

Role Overview

The Theatre Staff Nurse provides specialist nursing care within the operating theatre, supporting surgical procedures as a scrub nurse. You will ensure safe, efficient surgical care while maintaining high clinical standards and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Assist in surgical procedures as a scrub nurse
• Prepare theatre, instruments, and equipment for surgery
• Support surgeons during operations
• Maintain a sterile environment at all times

Patient Care

• Provide care before, during, and after surgery
• Support patients and families with reassurance and information
• Ensure patient dignity, safety, and comfort

Medication & Safety

• Administer medications safely
• Maintain controlled drug records
• Follow all safety guidelines and protocols (NMBI, hospital policies)

Teamwork & Operations

• Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and theatre staff
• Supervise and support junior staff
• Maintain accurate patient documentation (e.g. electronic systems)
• Take charge of the unit when required

Quality & Compliance

• Report incidents, risks, or near misses
• Participate in audits and service improvements
• Follow best practice and clinical standards

Requirements

Essential

• Registered General Nurse (NMBI)
• Minimum 2 years acute hospital experience
• At least 1 year theatre/scrub experience
