Staff Grade Dietitian - Adult Primary Care (Cavan Community Base)

Location: Cavan Community (with a base in Cavan town and outreach throughout County Cavan)

Contract Type: Full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday

Contract Duration: 1-Year Specified Purpose Contract (with strong potential for extension)

Salary: Aligned with HSE Staff Grade Dietitian Pay Scales

Excel Recruitment is seeking a Staff Grade Dietitian to join a well-established and welcoming Community team in Cavan. This is an exciting opportunity for a CORU registered Dietitian with experience working with adult caseloads in a community or primary care setting. The service is dedicated to preventative care, chronic disease management, and health promotion.

Job Purpose

The Staff Grade Dietitian will provide nutrition and dietetic services to adult clients across the Cavan community. The role includes delivering individual consultations and group education focused on nutrition support, weight management, diabetes, cardiovascular health, gastrointestinal conditions, and nutritional rehabilitation. You will collaborate closely with GPs, nurses, and allied health professionals to help patients achieve their health goals and maintain independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct dietary assessments and develop personalised nutrition care plans for adult clients across a range of clinical conditions

  • Deliver education and counselling for chronic disease prevention and management, including diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and gastrointestinal disorders

  • Design and facilitate group education programmes and community workshops on healthy eating and lifestyle management

  • Support patients transitioning from hospital to community-based care through discharge planning

  • Collaborate with Public Health Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and GPs to deliver integrated care

  • Participate in service development, quality improvement initiatives, and audits

  • Engage in ongoing professional development, research, and evidence-based practice

Requirements

  • BSc/MSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent

  • CORU Registration as a Dietitian (essential)

  • Experience working with adult clinical nutrition in a primary care or community setting (minimum 1 year post-qualification preferred)

  • Strong skills in managing chronic disease, malnutrition, weight management, and nutritional counselling

  • Excellent communication and motivational interviewing skills

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

  • A full clean driving licence and access to a car for domiciliary visits
