Job Title: Senior Speech & Language Therapist - Stroke Service
Location: Tallaght, Dublin 24
Contract: Permanent Part-Time (17.5 hours per week)
Salary: HSE Salary Scale €64,551 - €76,007 (pro rata)
Excel Recruitment are delighted to partner with a major Dublin teaching hospital to recruit a Senior Speech & Language Therapist to join the Stroke Service. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a highly specialised multidisciplinary Stroke team, supporting patients with communication and swallowing difficulties across both inpatient and Early Supported Discharge stroke pathways.
You will work closely alongside Clinical Specialists, Senior and Basic Grade Speech & Language Therapists, and Therapy Assistants, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based stroke care in a supportive and collaborative clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of communication and swallowing disorders for patients following stroke.
- Deliver evidence-based Speech & Language Therapy interventions to both inpatient and Early Supported Discharge (ESD) stroke patients.
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary Stroke team, including consultants, nurses and allied health professionals.
- Support safe discharge planning and community transition for stroke patients.
- Manage a varied clinical caseload across inpatient and community stroke pathways.
- Supervise and support Basic Grade SLTs, students and therapy assistants.
- Contribute to service development initiatives, clinical audits and quality improvement projects.
- Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and professional practice in line with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in education and training programmes for colleagues and healthcare professionals.
Essential Requirements
- CORU Registration as a Speech & Language Therapist (Essential)
- Minimum of 3 years full-time (or equivalent) post-qualification clinical experience
(Candidates with 2.5 years experience may be considered for panel formation) - Experience working with stroke patients within an acute or rehabilitation setting
- Full competence in the assessment and management of adult eating, drinking and swallowing disorders
- Proven experience working within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to Stroke care
- Experience supervising junior staff, students or therapy assistants
- Strong communication, clinical reasoning and leadership skills
- Experience in an acute hospital setting
- Post-graduate competence in adult video fluoroscopy and/or FEES interpretation and reporting (Desirable).
