Job Title: Senior Speech & Language Therapist in Neurology
Location: Tallaght, Dublin 24
Contract: Permanent Fulltime, 35 hours per week

Salary: HSE salary scale €64,551-€76,007

Excel Recruitment are delighted to partner with one of Ireland's largest teaching hospitals to recruit a Senior Speech & Language Therapist to join their Neurology Department. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a highly specialised multidisciplinary team supporting patients with acute and progressive neurological conditions.

This role offers the chance to work in a dynamic hospital environment providing specialist assessment and intervention for communication and swallowing disorders, while also contributing to service development, research, and clinical education.

You will play a key role in delivering Specialist neurological Speech & Language Therapy services across inpatient and outpatient settings, while supporting the development of innovative and high-quality clinical services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults presenting with communication and swallowing disorders associated with neurological conditions.
  • Deliver evidence-based care including instrumental swallowing assessments such as Videofluoroscopy and/or FEES.
  • Work as a key member of the Neurology multidisciplinary team, collaborating with consultants, nurses and allied health professionals to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Manage a varied inpatient and outpatient caseload within the Neurology service.
  • Supervise and support basic grade therapists, therapy assistants and students.
  • Contribute to service development initiatives, clinical audits and research projects.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and workload statistics in line with hospital policies.
  • Participate in education and training programmes for colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support the Speech & Language Therapy Manager in maintaining high clinical standards and service delivery.

Requirements

  • CORU Registration as a Speech & Language Therapist (Essential)
  • Minimum of 3 years full-time post-qualification experience (2.5 years considered for panel formation).
  • Experience working with acute or progressive neurological conditions.
  • Full competence in the assessment and management of adult eating, drinking and swallowing disorders.
  • Satisfactory recent proven working experience in the care of people with progressive and acute neurological conditions.
  • Postgraduate competency in Videofluoroscopy and/or FEES interpretation and reporting.
  • Experience supervising junior staff, therapy assistants or students.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in Neurology.
  • Strong communication, leadership and MDT collaboration skills.
  • Previous experience working in an acute hospital setting.
