Senior Physiotherapist - Obstetric & Women's Health

Location: Portiuncula University Hospital, Ballinasloe

Contract Type: 15 month fixed term contract until May 2027

Working Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (Monday-Friday)

Salary: Aligned with HSE Senior Physiotherapist pay scales

Excel Recruitment is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Senior Physiotherapist to join the team at Portiuncula University Hospital, Ballinasloe.

This specialised role is dedicated to providing high-quality care across all Obstetric and Women's Health clinical areas. You will manage a diverse caseload including antenatal, postnatal, and general women's health care, operating within the hospital, outpatient clinics, and off-site community areas as required.

Purpose of the Post

As a Senior Physiotherapist, you will be responsible for the delivery of a quality, client-centred service in line with professional standards and the National Clinical Programme. You will work closely with the Physiotherapy Manager and the wider multidisciplinary team to coordinate, develop, and implement strategies for effective care within a changing healthcare environment.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage a specialised caseload providing high-level assessment and treatment for ante-natal and post-natal patients, as well as general pelvic health conditions.
  • Perform internal assessments and design treatment plans for pelvic floor dysfunction, ensuring care is evidence-based and patient-centred.
  • Work as a core member of the maternity and surgical MDT (including Obstetricians, Midwives, and Nurses) to coordinate seamless patient pathways.
  • Design and deliver educational sessions to staff and patients to maintain high clinical standards and support patient self-management.
  • Act as a lead for the department by supervising junior physiotherapy staff and students on clinical placement.
  • Cross cover other clinical areas when necessary and contribute to the development of strategies to meet the changing needs of the population

Essential Requirements

  • BSc/MSc in Physiotherapy.
  • Current CORU registration as a Physiotherapist is essential.
  • Minimum of three years' post-graduate experience, with significant experience in Women's Health and Obstetrics.
  • A proven depth and breadth of experience specifically in Ante-Natal, Post-Natal, and Women's Health conditions.
  • Formal evidence of training in the internal assessment and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction (e.g., postgraduate certificates or recognised specialist workshops).
  • Evidence of consistent and relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) specifically within the field of Women's Health physiotherapy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a specialised team, demonstrating initiative and leadership.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
