Excel Recruitment are recruiting a Senior Occupational Therapist to join a well established Psychiatry of Later Life Team based in Tallaght.

This is an opportunity to join a well-established community based team with an excellent reputation for clinical excellence and supportive multidisciplinary collaboration.

The Psychiatry of Later Life team provides vital, specialised mental health services to older adults, focusing on complex mental health presentations, neurocognitive disorders, and age-related functional challenges.

Role Purpose

The successful Senior Occupational Therapist will provide expert, client-centred occupational assessment and evidence-based intervention as a core member of the multidisciplinary POLL Team.

Key Responsibilities will involve specialiSing in the functional impact of mental illness in older adults, addressing areas such as maintaining independent living skills, safety in the home, cognitive rehabilitation, sensory regulation, and enhancing social participation/engagement in meaningful occupations.

Clinical Duties and Leadership

You will be expected to utilise your senior clinical and leadership skills to:

  • Lead the delivery of specialised OT assessments and interventions for complex mental health and cognitive presentations within the later life client group.
  • Manage a defined specialist caseload, ensuring high-quality, recovery-oriented care that promotes independence and quality of life.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff and/or Occupational Therapy Assistants, contributing to the professional development of the team.
  • Collaborate closely with Geriatric Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and other allied health professionals to provide holistic, integrated care.
  • Contribute to service planning, quality improvement initiatives, and the ongoing enhancement of the OT service within the community setting.

Essential Requirements

  • BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy.
  • CORU registration as an Occupational Therapist (or pending confirmation).
  • Minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience as an OT.
  • Previous experience in Mental Health, with a strong interest in, or experience with, the Psychiatry of Later Life client group or associated complex presentations.
  • Demonstrable clinical reasoning, communication, and documentation skills.
  • A recovery-oriented, person-centred, and collaborative approach to care.
