Our Client a HSE Funded Nursing Home are looking for a Senior Nurse in County Mayo. This person will play a pivotal role in the daily running of this organisation.
Duties:
- Provision of professional / clinical leadership of staff within the Unit.
- Supervision of qualified and unqualified staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment.
- Acting as infection control liaison for the unit to lead by example to promote staff involvement in all activities to prevent cross infection.
- To be aware of changing protocols to manage infectious diseases and outbreak management.
- Takes charge of the unit as required, utilising appropriate support as necessary to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained.
- Demonstrate the ability to care competently for an assigned group of residents, serving as a role model for team collaboration and quality care.
- Demonstrate effectiveness in making independent decisions when necessary and in providing/obtaining assistance and consultation when appropriate.
- To be aware of the obligation of Cherryfield Lodge regarding Notification and Notifiable issues to the relevant Authorities. Completes the notifications as required in the absence of the Nurse Manager/Person in Charge.
- Demonstrates politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients, visitors and colleagues.
- Monitors care to ensure an environment that is conducive to the physical, spiritual and emotional well being of the resident and to the development of staff.
- Ensures confidentiality is maintained.
- Maintains effective working relationships within nursing, medical and allied health professionals.
- Follows through on complaints and incidents and appropriately communicates to management. Investigates when necessary in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
- Performs medication management, wound management and other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- In possession of a nursing qualification and registered with An Bord Altranais
- Interest in Gerontology and Gerontology qualification an advantage
- A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience and currently operating at Senior Staff Nurse Level
- Have line management or significant supervisory experience
- Knowledge of and experience working within HIQA regulatory framework
- Evidence based decision making skills and experience in the management and effective delivery of change
- Have experience in the development and delivery staff training i.e. mentoring and upskilling of staff
- Have experience in the review and development of policies
- Evidence of personal and professional development
- Excellent computer skills especially in Microsoft Excel and Outlook, and the ability to adapt to changing technology
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- In possession of the necessary documentation to work and live in the Republic of Ireland
- Ability to speak and write English fluently
