Purpose of the Role
The Quality & Patient Safety Manager will support the Head of Quality, Risk & Compliance in developing, implementing, and maintaining systems that ensure safe, effective, and person-centred care in line with all relevant regulatory and legislative requirements.
The successful candidate will lead the coordination, analysis, and reporting of quality, risk, and patient safety data across the organisation, while supporting continuous quality improvement initiatives, regulatory compliance, incident management, and patient safety governance. The role will also deputise for the Head of Quality, Risk & Compliance when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of quality, risk, and patient safety systems and operational policies.
- Manage and support the electronic Quality Management System (QPulse), including incidents, complaints, audits, risks, and quality improvement plans.
- Coordinate the collection, analysis, trending, and reporting of quality and patient safety data.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and performance metrics to support organisational governance and improvement.
- Support audit scheduling, regulatory compliance activities, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure effective document control processes and policy management systems are maintained.
- Provide training and guidance to staff in quality, risk, safety, and compliance processes.
- Support the investigation and management of incidents and adverse events.
- Ensure incidents are categorised and managed in line with the HSE Incident Management Framework.
- Support reporting requirements for notifiable incidents, Serious Reportable Events (SREs), and Category 1 incidents.
- Participate in Serious Incident Management Team (SIMT) reviews where required.
- Promote open disclosure practices and support staff following adverse events.
- Maintain and monitor risk registers and support risk assessment processes.
- Support the management of complaints and patient feedback processes.
- Deputise as Complaints Officer in the absence of the Head of Quality, Risk & Compliance.
- Promote a patient-centred culture focused on dignity, empathy, and service excellence.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare legislation, GDPR, healthcare standards, and regulatory frameworks.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of Mental Health Commission standards and Irish healthcare quality requirements.
- Support organisational readiness for inspections, audits, and external reviews.
- Prepare reports and presentations for senior management, committees, and governance meetings.
- Identify opportunities for service improvement and implement practical quality improvement solutions.
- Support organisational change initiatives and promote a culture of quality and safety.
- Work collaboratively across departments to improve processes and outcomes.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Significant experience in healthcare quality, patient safety, risk management, or compliance.
- Experience using Electronic Quality Management Systems (e.g. QPulse) and healthcare databases.
- Strong experience in data analysis, reporting, trend analysis, and quality improvement.
- Experience managing incidents, complaints, audits, and regulatory compliance processes.
- Strong understanding of healthcare governance and risk management frameworks.
- Experience preparing professional reports and presenting information to senior stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems and healthcare compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of the Irish healthcare system and healthcare regulatory standards.
- Excellent IT skills including MS Office, databases, and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Salary range
- €56,195 - €68,655 per year
