The Role
- Assess and monitor the mental health status of patients through interviews, observations, and assessments
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by psychiatrists and monitor their effectiveness and side effects
- Develop and implement individualised care plans in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to address patients' mental health needs
- Provide emotional support and therapeutic interventions to patients, helping them manage their symptoms and improve their mental well-being
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies
- Create a safe and therapeutic environment within psychiatric units or facilities, ensuring the well-being and safety of patients
- Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with mental illness, promoting access to appropriate care
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and progress, maintaining accurate and confidential records
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to coordinate care and treatment plans for patients
