About the Role
University Hospital Limerick is seeking a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine to join its Emergency Department team. This is an excellent opportunity to provide specialist care for children and adolescents while working in a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care:
Provide expert assessment, stabilisation, investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for children and young people in the ED.
Manage the full spectrum of paediatric emergencies, from minor injuries to seriously ill or injured patients.
Participate in the on-call consultant rota, ensuring senior cover for emergency presentations.
Leadership & Teamwork:
Lead and support the multidisciplinary team, including junior doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
Contribute to case discussions, clinical governance, and departmental audits to maintain high standards of patient care.
Work collaboratively with other hospital departments and specialists to ensure coordinated care.
Teaching & Mentoring:
Mentor and support junior doctors, trainees, and nursing staff in paediatric emergency care.
Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes where appropriate.
Service Development & Research:
Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and departmental development initiatives.
Engage in research, audit, and academic activities to support evidence-based practice and service development.
Administrative Duties:
Support hospital policies, risk management processes, and departmental planning to ensure safe, effective care.
Requirements
Full specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC).
Completion of accredited paediatric training, with fellowship or equivalent in Paediatric Emergency Medicine
Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.

Salary range
- €233,527 - €280,513 per year
